日曜の早朝4時に動き出すmakewhatisプロセス
夜中に突然自鯖がウィーンと唸り出したので、vmstatとか見たら案の定cpuのidleが0になっていました。
topコマンドで見るとmakewhatisという見慣れないプロセスがゴリゴリ動いています。

-bash-3.00$こんな感じで文字化けが含まれる子プロセスが表示されたりとか、こんな時間にいきなり勝手にcron起動してるとかで「このサーバ、もしかしてクラックされてるんじゃ・・！？」とか一瞬、ものすごく悪い予感がしたのですが（大げさ）、冷静に調べてみれば「manとかwhatisで表示される情報のデータベースを週一回cron起動で更新してくれてるありがたいやつ」だったのですね。
で、無知な為にこのwhatisにも馴染みがなかったわけですが。
